Ranching doesn't follow the four seasons. It's in a category on it's own. And lately, the four seasons happen a few times every month! Gotta love good ol' Nebrasky weather...just wait 10 minutes and it'll change.
So we started out this winter with some snow and getting things ready for calving. Calving started with a bang! Three sets of twins in two weeks meant a few bottle babies. They all survived and a few have new mommies now, and all doing well! Of course there are some that didn't make it and a few premature, but sadly it happens. Seems like every calving season I see something new, and definitely learn about 20 new things I didn't know the year before.
We still have quite a few left to calve, but this weekend (EEEEEEEEEEKKK...that's me squeeling like a really excited little girl!) we have our first branding of the year!!!!! I'm not quite sure why I love branding season so much. Maybe it's because I get to ride my horse..see people I haven't seen in months... oh and eat good food..AND if I'm lucky, (and can talk myself into) I can get the rope out and drag a few out of the branding pen! What a rush that is! I'm a loooong ways away from being a pro, and my arm gets tired from all the misses, but it's still so much fun!
